Wellness and Why It Matters
Wellness is dynamic progression of being aware of and making choices that leads to a pleasing and fulfilling life. It is more than been free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. It is a realization of one’s true potential to live a healthier, happier and more successful and balanced existence. It is the result of the cautious and considered efforts which leads to having a state of being healthy in both body and mind.
Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Our wellbeing in turn affects our actions and emotions making wellness a very crucial factor to consider. It is thus of much significance for one to make sure they achieve optimal wellness so as to reduce stress, pacify risks of illness and attain positive reactions. Wellness is an active life process where one utilizes awareness and make choices that leads to more healthy, gratifying and happier life.
There are eight dimensions of wellness; occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, social and intellectual. Each proportion of wellness have a relationship with each other and contribute equally to achieving better wellbeing. Emotional wellness pertains understanding your feelings and coping with stress well. It is essential for one to be attentive when it comes to self-care and relaxation and also trying to grow and learn from experience. It could be defined as the potention to having awareness of our personal feelings, coping with them and not being in denial, looking at alife from a positive perspective despite it always disappointing us. Environmental wellness encourages us to live a lifestyle that respects our surrounding and inspires us to live in harmony and taking care of the environment. This leads to positive communication with our surrounding. Spiritual wellness can be expressed through religion and it helps us develop a set of values that allows us seek meaning and purpose in life.
Financial wellness involves one learning and knowing how to manage their finances to fit into their expenses. Financial constraints at most times is the top stress causing factor amongst people. Financial stability compared to instability brings a peace of mind and satisfaction to one’s life and improves the general wellbeing of the individual.
Intellectual wellness is the ability to open up to and appreciate new ideas and contributions when tackling a situation and continual efforts to gain more knowledge.
Occupational wellness involves being happy in your daily activities like in your job and always appreciating your growth and contribution in it. Social wellness gives us the ability to interact with other people and perform our roles in the society.
Optimal physical wellness is achieved through the combination of beneficial physical activity and healthy eating habits.
